A story in the Toronto Star quotes a scathing critique by Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner over the government’s failure to disclose documents to assist the Commissioner’s investigation into the controversial cancellation of power plant contracts:
Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian has recovered some of the deleted Liberal emails related to the controversial $585-million gas plant cancellations.
“I was dismayed to learn that my office had been misinformed by Ministry of Government Services staff regarding the existence of records that would have been relevant to the special investigation report that I had released on June 5,” Cavoukian said in a statement Wednesday.
“I am appalled that we were provided with incorrect information during the course of my investigation, that was misleading,” she said, adding there will be a special addendum to her searing 35-page report on the missing messages.
The story also notes that the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the affair and that an opposition member speculates that this may have triggered the discovery of new information, including the emails of senior level staffers that were previously thought to have been deleted.
